Personal Trainer York – The importance of Hydration

Do you ever feel thirsty when you train?

Drinking lots of water is a given for most health and exercise plans, however there’s a little more to it than just increasing how much water you take in when you are training.

Good hydration is about drinking plenty of water all the time, not just during training.

Personal Trainer York Hydration Tips:

  • Use rock and sea salt, avoid processed salt
  • Drink small amounts of fluid regularly, not lots in one go
  • Drink Filtered or bottled water

The right balance of water, salt and electrolytes in your body will ensure you feel good and you’ll find doing exercise and avoiding sugary snacks much easier.

One of the best ways to effectively hydrate is to squeeze a lemon or lime into a litre of water with a pinch of sea or rock salt, and drink it slowly over the course of an hour or two.

Personal Trainer York Hydration Tips:

  • Hunger is often confused with dehydration
  • Good hydration helps prevent back injuries and issues
  • Good hydration means maintaining your electrolyte balance
  • Drink a glass of water before bed
  • Urine colour does not always tell you if you’re hydrated

When you’re eating, it’s important to remain hydrated, as the body requires significant amounts of water to ‘lock up’ the carbohydrates that occur naturally in food, so hydrating with a meal will prevent dehydration and any cravings for sugary foods (such as a nice dessert!) If you take vitamin pills, you may find that your urine is quite dark coloured. This is normal even if you’re well hydrated.
